Marcel Khalife
in his first performance with a UK Orchestra
26 June 2007 Marcel Khalife, composer, musician and master of the Oud, will be performning with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on 14 July for a unique concert series designed to break down cultural barriers and promote cohesion across different communities.
Khalife, a Pro Palestinian and a Christian, is a musical hero throughout the Arabic world but has never performed with a UK orchestra before.
He is appearing as part of the Phil’s contribution to the Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival.
A world class musician and Arabic folk hero, Khalife's partnership with the orchestra will provide a unique musical experience. Equally respected as an ambassador for peace and his visit is as much about promoting understanding between different communities as it is about breaking down barriers between different musical cultures.
Clark Rundell, who will conduct the concerts, said: "I am extremely excited to be working with Marcel Khalife as I have been a huge fan of his music for many years. The concert at Philharmonic Hall will certainly be a memorable evening for all of us."
The concert will include, amongst other music, a performance of Khalife's Concerto Al-Andalus, as well as a piano, oud and orchestra work composed by his son, Rami Khalife.
