Golden Dome
(2002)

Words Reem Maghribi

he was a young boy who loved his home
dreamt on reflections of the golden dome
and as a proud man loved his land
fought for the freedom of its golden sands

she was a young girl who dreamt of peace
longed for her father and his release
and as a proud mother loved her child
washed off his blood as she was reviled
he was an young man lost in the rubble
he did nothing to deserve this trouble
he was a father until yesterday
when at his baby’s grave he did pray
she was a bright student, her parents delight
she did not know what it meant to fight
the soldier put to her throat a knife
raped her of her dignity then took her life

Why would they harm an innocent people
There is no legitimate reason to speak of
Money, power, greed and control
They will never succeed in killing our soul
